Mr. Gerald Keddy (South Shore—St. Margaret’s, CPC): Mr. Speaker, the Atlantic bluefin tuna is vital to the east coast fishery. The Government of Canada shares the concerns of experts around the world about the conservation of Atlantic tuna and we have acted on this concern. Canada has the best managed bluefin tuna fishery in the world. But, the recent debate at international meetings in Doha does raise serious questions and the international community has been place on notice to follow through on previous commitments to take real action on bluefin tuna. Canada will continue to be a world leader on this issue. We will press other nations to follow the example of the sustainably managed Canadian fishery to ensure the survival of this iconic fish. * * *
